FEATURES OF STUDYING AT A
POLISH UNIVERSITY:
Studying in Poland takes place in different forms: full-time and part-time.
According to the Bologna education system, students have the opportunity to choose some subjects they would like to study. Full-time studies usually take place only 3-4 days a week, but the study day lasts until 6:00 PM. This way, students have more free time for self-development or work.
Students who study part-time have classes twice a month, on Saturdays and Sundays. This schedule allows them to combine studies with work. However, based on part-time studies, students are most likely not able to obtain a full national student visa, but only a Schengen visa with a limited number of days allowed to stay in Poland.
The academic year in Poland lasts from October 1st to mid-June. Each semester, which lasts about 4-5 months, ends with exams. Students must receive a passing grade (3 points or more) in all subjects. However, very often, lecturers grant a pass "automatically" to students who perform well and are active throughout the semester.
During the exam session, a student usually has several opportunities to take an exam for one subject.
First, there is the "zero term (zerówka)," followed by the first and second terms. If, after two or three attempts, the student does not receive a passing grade (3 or higher), they will have a "warunek." This is a paid opportunity to retake the exam after some time. On average, a "warunek" costs between 200 and 600 PLN.
